The Lappet Face Vulture
I saw a Lappet Faced Vulture sitting in a tree while Wild Dogs had caught an animal in the nearby vicinity.
Lappet Faced Vultures are scavengers and wait for their opportunity to pick at the carcass of the hunted animal once the predator has made a kill. The Lappet Faced Vulture is a critically endangered species.
The Vulture made its way to the ground in anticipation of joining the eating frenzy but kept its distance as the Wild Dogs fed fiercely on the dead animal.
Wild Dogs are fierce predators who hunt in large packs led by the Alpha male. Wild Dog packs ensure that all the dogs in the group get food at a kill. If necessary, the Alpha male will regurgitate food to ensure that the weakest in the pack has eaten.
The Lappet Faced Vulture took to the skies after the feeding frenzy.
